Susceptibility to Vaccination

چکیده

In the Indian Medical Gazette for March, 1896, Surgeon-Captain W. J. Buchanan drew attention to the large number of successful vaccinations observed by him among apparently protected prisoners in the Bhagalpur Jail. From observations made some years ago on vaccination in native regiments, and again from vaccination experiments performed while Deputy Sanitary Commissioner, I also had come to the conclusion that many of those who bear obvious marks of small-pox, of inoculation, or of comparatively recent vaccination, are still susceptible to successful vaccination. To test the accuracy of this conclusion I took advantage of the facilities offered for vaccination observations in the Presidency Jail, Calcutta, during 1894 and 1895. In this period 2,151 prisoners were vaccinated with the following results :?
